MCA is Offering Scholarships to Attend MCA Fall Conference

MCA is offering 20 Student Members a scholarship to attend the MCA Annual Training Institute, October 25-27 at Grand View Lodge in Nisswa, Minnesota.

MCA, in coordination with the MCA Student Services Committee, is offering scholarship to cover the $100 registration fee to the Annual Training Institute to 20 MCA student members.  Click here to see all the details of the Annual Training Institute.

The scholarship includes conference attendance and meals.  Breakfast (following an overnight stay), lunch on October 25-26 and a snack for the road on October 27.  It also includes the Wednesday evening vendor hospitality/ networking event (food will be served), followed by karaoke where Kat Perkins will perform.  On Thursday evening a networking and entertainment event which will include a dinner buffet and musical entertainment. 

Lodging accommodations, travel, and any other expenses would be the responsibility of the selected students.  Lodging rate is $60.30 per person per night for double occupancy and $98.57 per person per night for single occupancy. 

Student Members should submit a letter of interest by September22nd detailing their current degree track in college, why they are interested in attending the Training Institute, and how it would benefit their career.

E-mail your letter to Lloyd Grachek, Chairperson of the MCA Student Services Committee at Lloyd.g.grachek@state.mn.us no later than 4 p.m. on September 22nd. 

Scholarship award winners will be notified by September 29th.  Registration is required by October 6th. 

Not a current member?  Student Membership is $10 annually.

The purpose of this Committee shall be to provide outreach to institutions of higher learning.  They shall develop student involvement in the Association; inform students and faculty regarding careers in corrections, and work toward establishing and maintaining minimum educational standards in the field of corrections.


  • Provide outreach to institutions of higher learning.

  • Provide students and colleges with information on correctional programs, services, and careers.
  • Provide students with information regarding internships.
  • Provide an opportunity for student involvement and educational experiences in MCA through committees, fall institute, and college visits.
  • Maintain a dialog with colleges and university educators regarding current and relevant information on corrections in Minnesota and maintain educational standards.
  • Student Membership is available at a discounted rate of $10 per year. 
    Students who are currently enrolled full time in an undergraduate program and not employed qualify for this membership.  Students may be working, however, they may not be employed in the filed of corrections.  Student memberships are designed to help guide those to become employed in the field of corrections.
