Recent projects were completed by RS EDEN thanks to a small grant from the Minneapolis Foundation’s Fund for Safe Communities. With broader goal of disrupting cycles of mistreatment and harm in the criminal justice, it was the intention of this project to support and strengthen our Reentry Services program by first listening directly to our clients about their lived experience in correctional institutions and in our own system of reentry services. Though many human-service organization programs are grounded in client choice and voice, the service side of reentry has lagged behind. In many ways, reentry programs operate as a secondary, lower level of incarceration, with clients being told what to do, how to do it, and when. Everything is initiated from the top down, with client voice suppressed. Although our current environment has inspired many to act now, RS EDEN entered into this project with the belief that now is also time to listen. RS EDEN will present on their experience, findings and plans in response.
